'Furious 7' Knocks 'Transformers: Age of Extinction' Off Top Earnings Spot

It looks like Vin Diesel wasn't far off when he expounded about his confidence in the new addition to The Fast and Furious franchise, Furious 7. He told Variety Magazine, "Universal is going to have the biggest movie in history with this move, and it will probably win best picture at the Oscars unless the Oscars don't want to be relevant ever."

We, of course, thought these were bold statements to be making about a series of films primarily about illegal street racing and heists. Low and behold Furious 7 has become the highest grossing movie ever in the Chinese box office, knocking Transformers: Age of Extinction from the top spot.

The film has grossed a baffling USD 325.8 million in just 15 days. That's a total of 398.897 screenings and 11.517 million admissions, according to sources. Transformers' box office revenue totaled at USD 319 million during its run in China.

Maybe it's because reckless driving at furious speeds is a way life here in China, or the way Vin Diesel's head sparkles on the big screen that the film did what it sought out to do in the box office, but we are still of the opinion that the Oscars are irrelevant for more reasons than them not glorifying this pitiful display of commercial cinema. But we've been wrong before. Before the opening day Diesel, Jason Statham, and Michelle Rodriguez were all here in Beijing to promote the film and also hinted that it's possible the next installment will take place in China.
