First Glance: Saffron To Go

Venerable Wudaoying Hutong restaurant Saffron has just launched a unique “paella delivery service,” Saffron To Go, based out of Galaxy Soho. All the dishes are designed by Saffron's chef Yao Yang and prepared using fresh ingredients without any chemical additives.

Delivery is currently available from 11am-1pm and 6-8pm within three kilometers of Galaxy Soho by calling their hotline (400 088 7757) but expect them to have online and WeChat ordering systems up and running soon.

A traditional Spanish paella for three to four people starts at RMB 299 and they also offer a number of sides/tapas-style dishes from RMB 38. We tried out the delivery service in the office the other day and were very impressed with the results.

The food arrived promptly and comes with stylish (and biodegradable) packaging and plates. The Spanish paella was packed with seafood, which was not overcooked as can often be the case with lesser quality paellas. For RMB 299, the serving is more than ample for four people. As for the side dishes, the potato tortilla and Mediterranean grilled eggplant were our favorites.

We'll have more on Saffron To Go in the July issue of the Beijinger.
