It was a happy day when Panino Teca first opened up on Sanlitun Beixiaojie, finally a sandwich joint that new how to get it right. No longer did Beijing residents have to be content with poor excuses for sanwiches and the spam-filled "club sandwiches" at faux-western restaurants and cafes around town. The problem was, after a few months of opening, word had spread among the Sanlitun lunchtime crowd, made up of Jenny Lou daytime shoppers and diplomats from the nearby embassies, and finding a table at lunch time became a daunting prospect. Fortunately, they've now opened up a big new store in the Village complex - just across from Luga's and Aperitivo - that offers the same menu of quality sandwiches and tasty salads but without the hassle of having to hustle for a seat. Serivce at the new store still leaves a little to be desired - but I imagine that over the next few weeks it'll get better.
