Review of Yunteng Shifu

Updated Review December 2009:

What can I say? 2 years after discovering this place, it is still one of my favorite restaurants in Beijing. Even the plastic rain-forest in the main dining hall has grown on me.

- The food quality is consistently good
- The restaurant is clean
- The staff friendly and not pushy

New favorites now include the stewed pork riblets, yunnan hash browns, "crossing the bridge" noodles and of course the mijiu!

Nothing against Dali, Silk Road and the others but they're more look over substance! More folks should get over to yunteng and and get a real feel for the tastes.

Original Review from 2008:
Let's start by stating that I LOVE THIS PLACE.

- The decoration is a bit kitchy but always stirs up conversation with my out of town friends.

- The service top notch with a staff that is there when you need them but leaves you alone when you have what you need.

- The food is exquisite: The spicy mint salad, albeit strange combination, works.. a great dish to start things with. More mushroom dishes than Alice in Wonderland and leave some room for the "crossing the bridge" dish.

Pricing is reasonable 1 visit with two persons turned out to cost 200 RMB but we did get their most expensive mushroom dish. went back in with a group of 10 and had a feast for the grand total of 600 RMB..
