Great food, but pricey

I'll agree with others. This is easily the best Mexican/latin food I've had in Beijing. The salsas and guac are fresh, the meats are nicely grilled/stewed, and the drinks are decent.

That said, its pretty daggone pricey. A bowl of Minestrone is RMB 68 and RMB 90 for a Carlsberg beer?! A bowl of soup and a beer will set me back nearly 160 kuai?! Anyhow, those are extremes, but in general I find the menu to be on the expensive side, all things considered.

And the service still needs LOTS of work. Had to ask for a menu, was handed a drink/snack menu, then had to ask for a proper menu, which finally got, and had to flag down the waitstaff anytime we wanted anything.

During april they're participating in CW's Gourmet Month. Highly recommend going during this period, as the 98 kuai set menu is a freaking bargain.

In short, I'm torn. The food is really good, but the location (Solana's just such a wasteland), service and price will probably keep this from becoming a regular haunt of mine...

EDIT: As TBJill points out, the green tomatillo salsa is killer. And they will bring you more if you ask for it. But buyer beware... when I asked for more, and they brought it, they charged me for it. 7 or 8 kuai for a tiny serving, as I recall. So don't ask for too many refills unless you're rolling in the dough.
