Review of Takenosuke
3

This restaurant's specialty is its okonomiyaki, egg and noodle omelettes with various other sundries tossed in. I ordered with some trepidation, as the okonomiyaki pictures on the menu fell into the "nice looking food turned into salad cream action painting" category that's common in Japanese restaurants. Usually I'd be annoyed if the food arrived not looking as it did on the menu - in this case, the absence of salad cream was very welcome. The okonomiyaki was pretty good, though could be doing with stronger flavours. It's cooked at the counter, so you can see the chef putting it together.

There are also tons of teppanyaki dishes - the tables are fitted out for cooking at the table, though I didn't actually see this happening while we were eating there - with beef, chicken and seafood. We ordered some grilled chicken, which wasn't as tender as I'd have liked, but wasn't bad at all. The menu comes in English, Chinese, Japanese and Korean, if that's of any use to anyone reading.

Prices are fine - two of us got full for less than RMB 100. I would make a point of coming out this way for Sake Manzo, which is just next door. I wouldn't say the same for Takenosuke, but I would happily go back.
