Read the review on Oden at Fish Mama today and being a big fan of Japanese cuisine i imediatelly decided to check out this place (the dongdaqiao location). After some trouble finding it (it's actually quite easy to find it, but i was looking for a wrong house number at first) i finally got there this evening.
The place looks clean as every japanese place should be, although the furniture feels a bit too chinese if you catch my drift.
The restaurant features a nice robata grill (yes, the very same thing as featured in the curently so hip banana leaf restaurant in sanlitun) which is conveniently detached from the dining area by glass, preventing the heat to spred into the restaurant space during summer.
The menu consists of cold dishes (such as octopus in wasabi, korean kimchi, etc..), oden selections, sushi selection, tempura, robata grill selection,..., basically standard japanese fare.
The food is really generously portioned and for mere 89RMB me and my friend had all of these:
- kimchi, - octopus in wasabi, - miso soup, - ebi sushi rolls, - oden middle sized pot, - shrimp hand roll
apart from this we were also served a small apetizer (some kind of beens in peanut sauce), tea and watermelon slices for free!
The place is exactly what i miss the most in Beijing: "a clean, small place that does authentic food at very reasonable price".
It is now officially my favorite Japanese place in Beijing! Highly recommended!
