Went to Capital M on Saturday night and sat on the deck, at least until it started to rain about 15 minutes later. This spot will be unrivaled in September and October when autumn arrives. Even after we moved inside, it was also very pleasant.
Service was very attentive. The mezze platter was excellent and just the right size, although the amount of pita provided was far too little -- we supplemented with the basket of bread.
I had the slow-cooked pork, which was familiar from M on the Bund in Shanghai, and it was fantastic. Portion size here is slightly larger than that of Maison Boulud, although food quality is slightly lower, although still excellent. The salmon was also properly cooked and full of flavor.
For dessert, the Pavlova is superb -- creamy, fruity, ever so slightly crispy, very enjoyable.
If I would change anything here, I would impose a dress code. The restaurant is not inexpensive -- for these numbers, I do not want to sit next to some douchebag in shorts and a baseball cap. Hey douche -- the world's largest KFC is right around the corner, go there.
There were not many people here for a Saturday. Despite coverage in The New York Times and other publications, the restaurant is not so easy to find. They need some kind of regular drinking event to make full use of their expansive deck -- again, this will be a fantastic place for Beijing on September and October evenings.
I am looking forward to my next visit.
