Huanghe Shui Shaanxi Mianguan (Gongti Branch - I've never been to the other outlet) is never going to win any awards for "fine dining," but what they do offer up is solid, hearty Shaanxi fare that's perfect for chilly winter nights.

I normally go for the nui rou mian and rou jia mo. The serves of noodles are very generous, and the meat in the rou jia mo is very tasty, although it does tend to be on the fatty side, just as the locals like it. The bread is always fresh and crisp.

Although slightly more expensive that the average street-side eatery, Huanghe Shui is also a good deal cleaner than many cheap noodle joints. You can still fill up for under 30 kiua, so it's not exactly going to break the bank. Best of all, the Gongti branch features an open kitchen which allows you to see your food being prepared.

Service and brisk and business-like, but never surly.

Lastly, this place is open 24 hours, making it one of the best last-night options in a city still somewhat lacking in decent after-hours dining options.
