so, i've been to iranian places a couple of times all over the world and missed to eat at rumi the last time i was in beijing.

after all, once you walk from tuanjiehu station to the village, you can't miss that place as its interior and design is much, much better than turkish mum and the other middle-eastern restaurant next to it.

during my stay i tried it two times:

first time i wanted to get there for the buffet for 88rmb per person. i walk in, see that the buffet is empty, which can happen and is not a problem as long as it gets refilled during the buffet-time. i asked the waitress if they are going to fill the buffet up (there were still two more hours to go on the buffet, i didn't get their 5 min. before it was done) or if i should rather order something a la carte.
she told me in the most unpolite way that i should sit and buffet-refill has been ordered already. surprised of this very special way of treatment i spent 20 minutes waiting for either the buffet to get refilled or at least someone telling me if i want to order a la carte. nothing happened. after requesting to talk to the manager (not the chinese restaurant manager, but the "real" iranian one) i was told that the kitchen has not been able to fill the buffet up again, since two tables decided not to eat at the buffet but to order a la carte.
leaving aside that, according to me, a restaurant should be able to give out meals to two tables AND fill up the buffet once people payed for it, the service at this day was incredibly bad. i told the manager the treatment i was given and he said that it is the second time that he was told that this special waitress has been mistreating customers and he will fire her.
for the first time, i give the place zero stars, as i was treated badly and had no food.

the second time i went there was yesterday during dinner time. we ordered the beef and chicken koobideh plus one of their stew dishes (gheimeh bademjan, lamb and eggplant) plus a shirazi salad. the salad was ok (what can you do wrong with a salad made of cut cucumber, onions and tomatoes?), the gheimeh cold and the kebab a joke.
i know, i am not in iran, i can't expect an alborz-kebab (the dadong of kebabs in teheran, a must go), but are you kidding me?? the meat tasted like burger patties out of the refrigerator, crusty on the outside, tasteless inside, the rice was overcooked and the overall taste was one-star...the salad was ok. surprisingly i met once again the very, very unfriendly waitress from the first time. she recognized me and, voila, she didn't look me in the eyes and treated us again rather unfriendly.

wanted to take my friends there, gave it a try before. now i can save my guests from bad iranian food and cheap service.
for those that want to give the place a try, do it, i hope that you have a better experience.
for those that had iranian food before and know good iranian food: don't go, you will certainly get disappointed.

this is a 0,5 star by the way.i know we are in beijing, it may get tough to get the ingredients and stuff so i try to be fair when reviewing restaurants, but this place was not worth the money.

The Goodwill for Rumi won't last if their staff aren't made to treat the customer with a little more respect. They used to have a crew I called them the super models , they just couldn't care about the customer, and were rather insolent at any request. They were removed it seems which was good. My experience the buffet is not as good as the food off the menu at night. Something about making food for the trough than the plate comes to mind. Now I know the owner of Rumi is a level headed conscientious guy all I hope is that they reign it in a little, instead of letting things deteriorate ever so slightly. This restaurant has given me some wonderful experiences, and I will eat there until I fall off the chair, just hope they solve some of these issues.
