As some of the other reviewers have said, the food here is a little on the pricey side, but the coffee is nicer than it is in the competing cafes - think Bridge or Sculpting In Time. The older guy who is in charge here looks utterly thrilled every time he sees that you've come to his establishment. He remembered me from my first time going in there and often he'll thank me for coming, which is really nice to see and gives the bean tree a much more personal feel than the bridge or sculpting in time. Another reason I prefer it to those two is you can be almost sure to get a seat every time you go! Overall: Food: 3 Coffee: 4 Service: 5 for the guy. 2 for the woman. Atmosphere*: 4 *Atmosphere conducive to studying/relaxing, not to drinking! EDIT: Down to 3 stars. If you get served by the old Korean guy then it's still as good as ever, but if you get served by his wife then I'd give the service 2 stars. She comes accross as kind of abrupt and surly.

Re: Best Cafe in Wudaokou
i loooove the Bridge cafe, I spend a lottt of time there every week!
It's the best place to study and their minestrone&mushroom soup is great!
Unfortunately, I have very high standards when it comes to coffee... It seems like you can't find a good coffee anywhere in Wudaokou.

I like the bridge as well, but every time I go there to study I end up just browsing the internet... Too many people I guess! Yeah finding good coffee isn't an easy task around here, but at least the coffee isn't terrible, just average.

Re: Best Cafe in Wudaokou UNLESS served by the female boss.
I really disagree about the female boss bit. I myself used to hold the opinion that she's a bit of an ice queen, but I soon realised what a brilliant owner and manager she is: Whenever I have had problems with my order (rarely!) or whenever I've requested something particular, she has always been extremely swift, efficient, and gracious in helping me, and never, ever made me feel picky for asking. Furthermore, if you hang around in the quieter periods, you'll see her away from the till point attending to things busily, clearing the ashtrays, checking the toilets, etc. It's clear that she takes huge pride in her business and no aspect of its upkeep is 'below her'
She's isn't at all impolite, she's simply tight-lipped and reserved, and she's really great at her job and takes huge pride in the business - which is what makes Bean Tree the best ;)
