Review of Pinotage
5

Recently I Dj'ed at an expatriate's farewell event here and found Pinotage an ideal place for events. The staff are extremely attentive and the outdoor area overlooking the lake is perfect for party goers to relax while not dancing. 10/10

Such a great concept at Pinotage ( great wine, generally great food, portion sizes that are flexible to the number of guests, special offers and good membership services for regular guests) ..... But now sadly the reality, Pinotage is a great concept but is drastically let down by the front of house staff who honestly haven't got a clue. We went twice in the last four days ( twice I hear you say when the first experience wasn't good .... Ok yes fair point, but I liked the concept so much and after spending 600 RMB on the membership I wanted to try and make use of it). The first time we had a reasonable dinner apart from the fact we asked 3 times when our main course was coming and waited 30 minutes for it and every waiter(ress) we spoke to seem a little clueless to what was going on. Eventually it arrived and it was Venison Wellington that looked divine but due to us being given wrong cutlery and the fact it was grossly undercooked! When we complained we were told this was "Wellington style" being British I questioned the slightly bemused manager and asked him to try and cut the meat ( which he was unable to do). In fairness they replaced it with the next biggest portion size and it was delicious but it was another 30 minutes later and we had somewhat lost our appetite.

Second night to follow in next review due to word count ....

Ok so here goes on the second night, some 3 nights after the first ( yes ok I partially have myself to blame!)
So we only went in to buy a bottle of wine and with not knowing what we wanted we decided we would order a glass of each of the six wines they had available as a glass and make a decision after that..... Easy business for the restaurant I hear you say? After all the six glasses of wine cost over 400 RMB and the bottle would be at most 300 and if the restaurant plays it's cards right you would only be in there for most 20 minutes (not bad business with little service required , just get us the wine and we make a decision be pay and leave)
So 20 minutes after we had ordered and asked 3 of the waiting staff what was going on we still had no wine, the fourth waiter we spoke to we told that I'd we didn't have our wine in 30 seconds we were leaving. Eventually the wine appeared and 4 of the glasses had a label underneath (indicating the name of the wine.... Slightly crucial for deciding which wine you want to go home with) and two didnt and the waitress then explained which of the two wines the non labelled wines were. The only problem was that it differed from the labels under the 4 we had ( which we assumed to be correct.... Why wouldn't you ?) the waitress then came back and told is the labels were wrong so we asked to speak to the manager and were told it would be looked into but left straight away with no wine and without paying. As we were not willing to pay over 400 RMB for wine that we wouldn't know which bottle to buy ...... Again a great concept and generally good food ..... Please just get some waiting staff and a manger that is always there that has some sort of a clue !!!!
