Review of Duck de Chine
1

Decided to give this place another try and so me and the missus went there for lunch. Wish we didn't.

The decor is still nice and the waitress duly informed us that the entire restaurant is non smoking, which was a bit of a surprise as there were quite a few guest smoking in both the bar area and beyond. Never mind, we remembered the duck was really good the last time so we tried to nab a table in the least smokiest spot...

The service seemed very abrupt and the chef cutting the duck almost dropped it twice, he seemed to be in that much of a hurry to get the meat carved and the carcass whisked away back to the kitchen. I totally agree with other reviewers regarding the measly portions of duck meat (not a patch on Da Dong)....the meat was tender but the skin not really crispy. The other dishes were served really slowly and to be honest the dim sum discount sounds good but they are all a bit meh...

By the time the final two dishes came, we had lost our appetite so we asked for them to be boxed so we could eat later. The bill arrived and we knew it was not a cheap eat, but when they start charging 3rmb per take away box and 5rmb per bag, and then a 10% service charge on top, we thought they were starting to take the p*ss...

Disappointing, as the meat is not bad and the hoisin sauce is tasty. There is a lot of competition out there and it's such a shame that a lot of restaurants start out really well and then greed for profit takes over....
