I've been a few times to Gung-ho now. We live just about 500 feet outside their delivery zone or we would have tried it earlier. But it didn't seem worth it to actually go to their restaurant–I didn't really have high hopes for their pizza. I figured it would be the same tasteless, poorly made "pizza" that most Chinese restaurants seem to think will pass. But I was wrong.
The pizza is SUPPOSED to be thin. Please be aware that if you think a pizza has to be New York or Chicago style (i.e., thick, chewy crusts and/or extra layers on top, dripping with cheese, with slices large enough that they could be sold by the slice) you will not care for Gung-ho. That's fine, but just think of that in advance, before you try it. I've noticed lots of people complaining about restaurants having pizza they don't like when the real problem is that it is a different style than they prefer.
The flavor of the pizza is quite good, and you can taste that the ingredients are higher quality than most. If I had to give a negative, I'd say that it might be a touch too thin, even for thin crust pizza. We had their pizza about 5 times now in the last couple months, and 1 of those times it was burnt and the problem seemed to be that it was just so thin the toppings weren't ready by the time the crust was burnt. But the other 4 times were good. Their whole wheat crust is also very good. There aren't many places that have whole wheat anything, and some that do don't even use real whole wheat. They just used regular bleached white flour with some wheat germ added back in. Not so, Gung-ho. It's tasty and the whole wheat isn't too harsh or bitter for the flavors.
The salads are excellent-not least because you don't get sick afterward, which not all places that serve salad can boast about around here. The service was good, too, and the staff was clearly trying to be friendly and make everyone happy.
Overall we like it a lot, and would be ordering from them a lot if they were within delivery distance. As it is, we do stop by when we're in the area.

Re: Tasty and decently priced; nice atmosphere
Hi Bluefish!
Thanks so much for your kind words! We're often so focused on the task at hand that we forget that we aren't doing so bad... so keep it coming!
It's definitely nice to be recognized for the extra lengths though. You're right; our flour is certified organic (took us ages to find!) and with the introduction of our new central kitchen, our salad prep should be even better (and safer) than before.
Can I ask which store you were in when you received the burnt pizza? I'd like to check up on that. We have a money back guarantee so if you get a 'charcoal' pizza again (we call it 'Aussie Style') please return it and have the team make you another!
Also, may I ask whereabouts you live? We're hoping to open another store or two Very Soon™ and if it's near you I'll give you a secret heads up.
Thanks again for your feedback and support!

The extra lengths are nice–the cheese, the flour and even the tomatoes are obviously good quality, and better than a lot of restaurants bother with.
All 5 of our experiences were at the Lido store. We live around Beixinqiao, but our schedule and work doesn't often take us to the Sanlitun area (I know you have a store there; haven't seen it yet). We have a friend who lives very close to your Lido store, so that's why we've been there. The time we had the burned pizza it was a delivery to our friend's house. It was a really busy time of day, so I figured they were just swamped.
Oh, and I meant to mention in my initial review that the last time we ordered it was a pretty big order for a party we were having. We asked for some specific things as per timing and pick up, and everything was done perfectly. I was pleased that the staff got it all right on a larger scale like that, and meant to compliment them on it.

Wow. Serious problems with this site–took 20 minutes to get that last comment up, and then it posted 3 times.

Hi Bluefish!
Beixinqiao? So close yet so far! No promises but BXQ is one of the hot spots we're considering... If we have any news I'll be sure to give you a heads up.
Also, I'll let the team know about the burnt pizza. It shouldn't burn in Lido's oven so I'll check it out. Always good intel.
And I'll be sure to pass on my compliments to the team regarding their handling of your event! It's definitely what they do but in the event of a mistake, please let us know!
Thanks again,
Rich
