I saw someone else just left a review for this place and that it was the only review, so I figured I'd add another to say how good it is.

I've gone to both locations once each, and the food and service were pretty consistent between the two, but the newer one (Mao'er Hutong) is bigger and you hopefully won't have to wait as long if you come during peak times.

The food is warming Japanese comfort food and is great for the cold weather that's just starting to settle in. I was really impressed with the service on my last visit. With another vegetarian, we ordered the kimchi hotpot to share, and it arrived with some big hunks of pork in it. We didn't realize the dish had any meat, so we asked the server just to confirm it was the right order, which it was. When he realized we were vegetarian, he immediately offered to take the dish back and redo it without the meat and with extra vegetables. That this was close to closing time and probably the last dish they made for the night made it even more significant. Service like that is hard to find in Beijing and should definitely be noted. We were just expecting to eat around the meat as often happens to us in Beijing, and were actually pretty shocked that they offered to redo it when they'd made no mistake to begin with.

Prices are very reasonable and the food's tasty. Looking forward to return visits.
