Review of Home Plate BBQ
4

As a fan of real North American food, not mcdonalds or KFC, I had to try Homeplate. Been there twice now.
With beer, homeplate is a wonderful experience for a evening out, with a movies screen, wooden tables and walls and a real home style feel. I have tried quite a few different dishes, my reviews are as follows:

-Fried pickles: for those with a strong stomach, but are fantastically delicious. I enjoyed them. Could improve by making it less oily more crusty, less moist. Maybe let the pickles become dried out a bit before using them. Also experiment with different pickled vegetables that are easier found in China (cheaper option)

-Fried Ocra: Nasty crusty and really spicy! It's practically a sauce coated corn bread ball that is baked until it feels like a rock. Dark brown outside due to the extremely spicy sauce.

-Pulled Pork Sandwich: As the winner of the burger awards, I see why. It is so delicious meaty and sweet spice flavour. The spice is good for me, but for those who like it less, maybe make a less spicy option. Near perfect, just include some more vegetables, like those pickles

-Pulled Pork platter: Great for those who like meat, but still for some reason all the dishes contain a lingering and extreme spicy-ness that seems to be cooked right into the meat.

-Ribs platter: Great tasting and good, a little less sauce

-Apple pie: It is really below average, not what I was expecting.

-Lemonade: OMG, amazing, but not for those who don't like a tangy and sweet mix.

-Various beers: All quite good, really nice to wash down the extreme spice that lingers in the food. Reason for spicy flavour of so many dishes I believe is to increase the sale of beer.
