Quickie Salad -- just the thought of a salad place in Beijing made me suspicious. Visions of wilted greens and a few fetid toppings sitting in unhygenic, room-temperature tubs filled my mind before I entered. Not to mention a steep price tag and dainty portions.
However, ALL of these illusions were shattered when I entered Quickie, which is located in the food court in the new Parkview Green building in Fangcaodi.
For about 55 kuai I walked out with a mammoth salad that I could barely finish, made to order with my choice of what looked like about 50 different toppings. Miy creation was not just veggies -- I chose crumbled blue cheese, tuna and egg and therefore the salad was filled with filling protein.
The freshness was top notch and service snappy (though it was empty when I was there -- no idea how they'd do during lunch rush).
Somewhat disconcerting was the fact that after selecting the toppings, the server not only tossed the salad but proceeded to chop it into oblivion with a two-handled knife. Such vigorous chopping made it easy to eat and well mixed but it was a bit overkill as it blended all the distinct ingredients together a little too well for my tastes. (is this chopped salad a trend somewhere?)
I won't exactly race across town in traffic to eat here again but any time I'm in the near vicinity I'm sure to go back.
Here's to them starting a new trend and surviving
