This is a review for the branch on the top floor of the Shimao dept store in sanlitun
I'm really surprised there are no reviews of this place because it is always packed. Mainly locals but a good smattering of expats as well.
It is set up to resemble a street and unlike a lot of "ethnic" restaurants the decor here actually works well and it has a good buzz and feel to the place. They also have live traditional music and whilst it sounds to me like a cat being tortured it does add to the atmosphere.
I know nothing about this regions food and I do avoid any offal dishes ( of which there are quite a lot ) but the roast pork knuckle is fantastic and would put a lot of German places to shame and at 48 is a steal. I also love the smoked fish and the salted chicken is also very good.
The service is amongst the best I have encountered in Beijing as well. The only thing is the kitchen closes quite early so you need to be ready to eat before 8 and the drinks menu is only in Chinese with no pictures so I end up with either Tsing Tao or coke every time.
