Well-curated wine list but availability a problem

I realized while I was there the other night that I don't go to Enoterra enough. Between its elegant main floor and its roof deck (in season), it's a pleasant place, with a well-curated wine list and some excellent nibbles -- the cheese platter isn't cheap but for at least two people, it's worthwhile.

My only quibble is that the wine list is occasionally strange, and has no real relation to what's available. Case in point: it's August, and the night I visited there wasn't a single pinot grigio in stock. There also wasn't a single New Zealand white on the menu -- when in doubt and ordering white, the Marlborough Valley is a sure thing. I asked the server what the difference was between the printed, bound menu, and additional offerings written on the chalkboard. "Fewer of those [on the chalkboard] are available," she said. Oh dear.

To Enoterra's credit, it takes a bit of work to pick a bad wine there, and while none of it is inexpensive, it's not overpriced, either. Its location in Nali Patio makes it easy to slide out of Enoterra and straight into a table at some of Sanlitun's best non-Chinese outlets. A good choice to start an evening or a weekend.
