A fairly typical, large Chinese bookstore

I went to ZGC bookstore looking for IELTS books for someone else and also Chinese books to read myself. For both of these things the book shop was pretty good.

They have a massive selection of IELTS related books, perhaps 3 or 4 full aisles. I don't know much about studying for this exam but by the vast quantity of books they have, surely there must be some good titles there. They have books that explain the exam and how to do well, books focusing on just one element (e.g. speaking) as well as books that seem to 'IELTS' related but on one particular topic. I ended up buying a couple of 'Cambridge IELTS' series books that looked quite good.

I was looking at Chinese 'young adult' or 'childrens' books for myself as I've gone past the level of most graded readers. It's pretty hard to know what to look for when you're essentially just staring at rows of Chinese titles. In the end, I stumbled across Roald Dahl books in Chinese so ended up buying two of these a long with another English/American story that had been translated into Chinese. I almost bought a couple of Chinese authored books but they looked less inviting. Maybe I will go back for them.

I was surprised to find a really good selection of English readers for children too. They had the 'step into reading' series and 'ladybird' series of books as well as many others. They also have a good selection of books like 'Charlottes Web' and 'The Hunger Games' in English. If anyone is looking for English books for students or their own children this place isn't bad.

I had a quick look at English titles and found that the previous reviewer was correct in saying that they focus mostly on classics. They have a few different publishers releases of various classics. They did have some more 'current' books but not many and they weren't that current either. Probably not the best bookstore to go to for English books unless you are after a classic read.
