I looked at the reviews for this place when I was searching for a Mexican/TexMex place to eat a few months ago and was obviously completely put off. Then last night we turned up at Taco Bar to find them closed, and with a craving for Mexican, went looking for somewhere else that was still open. Cantina Agave was a nearby option that opened late (until 2am I believe), also with outdoor seating, so (forgetting the terrible reviews I'd read before) we went there.

And we loved it!

The roof terrace was packed but we still got served quickly and the service was attentive and thoughtful throughout the night. The food was absolutely delicous, fresh and tasty and served in massive portions - to quote my dining partner there was "half a cow" in the burritos! And there were plenty of options for vegetarians too. My cocktail was generous and the dessert - arroz con leche - was amazing, so rich and creamy it was actually difficult to finish even between two of us!

Only a couple of things niggled, and are the reason for 4 stars: there wasn't much Mexican atmosphere, with pop and dance tunes being blasted by the DJ from the terrace. And the arroz con leche, while amazing, was topped with cheap tasteless chocolate, which spoiled it a bit!

For a starter, two salads, burritos, two drinks and one dessert (and plenty left to take away for the next day haha) the bill was under 400RMB, which makes this place great value in my book!

I can't comment on the authenticity of the food at all (though it did win Outstanding Mexican in the TBJ dining awards in 2015 so perhaps that's a good sign!), but I can say that we throughly enjoyed it and would definitely recommend it!
