It was my birthday on Monday, and the wife and I travelled 2 hours to try out Mr. Chips. Before opening a physical location, he was constantly on WeChat promoting his wares, so it looked like a great option, especially as we are both British and Mr. Chips offers a veggie fish option. We were so excited to try something previously very hard to find in Beijing.
However, upon arrival dead-on 5.30pm, the place was in darkness with not a soul around. We awaited until 6pm, when we finally found his WeChat contact and added him. After 10 minutes, he replied, simply saying "Sorry for any inconvenience", without any attempt at further explanation or apology. For sure, we will not be making the trek back here, and if the food is the same quality as the terrible service, it certainly won't be around much longer.

Re: If the food is as bad as the service, it won't be around...
Did you check the opening hours before heading over? I just did and the place is closed on Mondays

Of course. When I searched 'Mr. Chips Beijing' the TBJ listing is the first one that comes up, and that says open daily. Take a look at the top of the page here.

Oh come on 'f00dwh0re', why the hostility? I don't think the OP is unreasonable in using TBJ listings as a reference, especially if they don't read Chinese well. Isn't that the point of TBJ, after all? Plus, it's the business' responsibility to check their listings are accurate.

So you went when the store was closed, and blame the new owner for your mistake?
Classy. You must be a hit at parties.

So you blame a potential customer for trusting the opening times on a reputable website (i.e. this one), instead of seeing that the new owner should take responsibility for making sure potential customers have access to the most correct information (i.e. checking listings websites have the correct information)?
Classy. You must be a hit with....well, no one, I guess.

Either way, it may be his fault or not about the time. It may well be someone at thebeijinger. I've been several times, the food is delicious, good value and the owner has been lovely. You're hurting a guys new business for something he may/may not have done, which he did apologise for.
