Review of Beyond Yakitori
5

While Beyond Yakitori has been open for a few years now it is one restaurant I can visit and know that I'll have a good time. Despite having a largely forgettable entrance on the third floor of Topwin, once you duck under the noren you're immediately met by the smells and sizzles of high-quality yakitori being made on the 10-feet grill that overlooks the rest of the restaurant. The music is lively without being annoying and the seating is varied and intimate. Owner Chris - who is there nearly all the time and happy to share his passion with customers - knows his shit having lived in Japan for several years and frequently returns to re-up his knowledge on food trends and cooking styles. Most recently they've been pushing their growing sake selection, which usually has some kind of promotion when paired with food. All in all, it's just of those dependable places that's fit for a fancy but not wallet-busting date or after-work dinner with colleagues or friends. Absolutely order the beef tongue skewers, the scotch egg, and cream cheese.
