2F Expands to Juliette's
After Juliette’s closed last month, the guessing game began as to who would take the space over. Given the respective fates of Juliette’s and its predecessor, Le Bistrot Parisien, another French restaurant seemed unlikely. Lo and behold, Jin from 2F has announced his team has moved in and will open a new bar in April.
Now, what do you think they’re going to call this new bar? While you’re looking at this photo, you’ve got a few seconds to think …
So the new bar will be called … 1F. Who saw that coming? Anyway, it’ll be interesting to see if Jin and his team can replicate the success they’ve enjoyed with 2F. The amiable bartender tells us that 1F won’t be a cocktail bar; instead it’ll have a large beer selection and food. Jin says “We’ll have Hoegaarden, Stella, Guinness, Kilkenny and Tsingtao on draft, as well as a large choice of bottled beers.“ And the food? The 2F team are in talks with several chefs, but with nobody on board yet, Jin was unable to expand on what type of food we can expect to be ordering at 1F. All he would say is “We want to make 1F a cozy place. It won’t be ‘cheap,’ but it won’t be expensive either. It’ll be about great beer, great food, a place to start the night. If people are looking for a place to go for after-work drinks, we want them to think ‘1F’.”
And 2F? Says Jin, “2F will remain as it is. People will go to 1F for food and beer; they’ll come to 2F for cocktails and whiskey. ” Jin added that he’s got someone lined up to handle the management of 1F – “someone who’s experienced working with food” – to allow him to stay upstairs and maintain the quality of drinks that 2F has become known for. Again, Jin wouldn’t be drawn on who that person might be, but we’ll find out soon enough. 1F is tentatively scheduled to open as soon as April 10, although a delay wouldn’t be a surprise. Stay with the Beijinger to find out when you can check out 2F’s new sibling.
