Tatt Masters: Zhang Xin of Creation Tattoo

Beijing-native Zhang Xin’s interest in tattoos and body art grew out of her passion for drawing as a youth. Now as the manager of Creation Tattoo, she helps her studio’s artists express their inspiration in cooperation with the vision of their customers.

Where are you from and how did you get involved with body art and tattoo art?
I was born in Beijing and I was really into drawing when I was little. Later, when I was a painting major in university, I once saw a beautiful tattoo on someone’s body, which was very inspiring to me and led me, eventually, into the body art industry.

What services does Creation Tattoo offer?
We provide professional tattooing and body piercing, microdermal piercing implants and tattoo washing services. We design and tailor tattoo patterns for each customer free of additional charge. Also, we sell various kinds of piercing and microdermal accessories as well as tattoo style clothing.

What are some of the special things about the studio?
Both the interior design and environment of our studio space and the tattooing techniques we are able to provide of Creation Tattoo are up to international standard and top of the class within China. These are our goals, and the comments and feedbacks we have been receiving on these points are very positive and encouraging. We are also the only tattoo studio that has been issued with a sanitation license from the Beijing government. We understand that maintaining strict sanitation standards for our studio is of absolute importance for our customers, and that a clean, comfortable studio alleviates a lot of fear and discomfort. We are trying our best to excel in all aspects and details of our studio, and at the same time we try to keep our prices as reasonable as possible.

Who are the studio’s artists?
Each of our studio’s artists has a different tattoo style. They have all received numerous awards in both domestic and international tattoo competitions. Every tattoo pattern is designed for the customer based on their specific requirements and preferences. We never use repeated patterns or patterns copied from other people’s bodies. We guarantee uniqueness, because the tattoo itself also serves the function of presenting originality and personality.

Some of your studio artists have experienced tattoo conventions outside of China. How does tattoo art and culture in China compare to abroad?
As a kind of art, tattooing is more and more acceptable worldwide, and the styles and subjects of each country and region always tend to reflect their culture, beliefs, trends and traditions. To comprehend and faithfully represent these blending influences is an ongoing process for a tattoo artist, which is directly related to continuing to improve one’s skills and capabilities.
