Capital Bites: Bits and Pieces
Mosto is closed until August 9th for renovations, and will open up with a “slightly new look” according to their PR. Their other project, the soon-to-open Modo at Sanlitun Village is still on schedule to open in early August, so we must be patient a bit longer. At Solana, two places are scheduled to open in September. Cabare, a European bistro, and Chao, a contemporary fusion restaurant will add to the dining options out in the northeast. Also new to the scene will be Switch, a restaurant opening at 798 Art District by the Canadian catering company Culinary Capers.
For those more interested in a quick bite, Nathan’s Famous is nearly ready to serve you some hot dogs … they’re just waiting for Le Mall (in Wukesong) to officially open. The menu provides not only the beloved Nathan’s staples of chili cheese dogs and crinkle cut fries, but have expanded to include burgers, chicken tenders, lobster rolls and fried seafood platters. Oh, and Beijing Beer on tap. This is their first shop in China, but looking forward to seeing more of them popping up around town.
Already in business are Jerusaleum, which serves up a short menu including Jordanian mansaf, taboleh, shashouka, shish taouk, Lebanese pastries and some other baked goods. It’s also a halal butcher selling beef, lamb, chicken and fish. Another new place serving up Middle Eastern favorites is Alameer. Their menu offers all the usual suspects, but their specialty is desserts. On display at their café are towers of baklava and other cakes prepared by their Syrian chef, which are distributed to other restaurants in town as well as sold at Jenny Lou’s by the box.
