Venue Change: INTRO 2011 Moved to 798

With INTRO 2011 just under two weeks away, organizers Acupuncture Records have announced a change of venue. The electronic music festival will take place at 751 D-Park in 798 Art District on May 21-22. The event will not take place at Tongzhou Canal Park as previously advertised.

The change seems to have been prompted by police concerns arising from problems with last week’s Strawberry festival at the Tongzhou Canal Park site. There were issues with both ticketing and alcohol sales, and presumably neither local authorities nor INTRO’s organizers want to see a repeat on May 21-22. We’re currently waiting to hear more from Acupuncture, and will update this post as we get more information.

751 D-Park’s industrial wasteland-chic setting in 798 made it a memorable location for previous INTRO festivals in 2009 and 2010, so I doubt anybody will complain too much about the change.

No other changes to the original plan have been announced - dates, lineup, ticket prices and other details remain unchanged.

Common sense has prevailed. 798 is the ideal venue for this event and last year the music and atmosphere was perfect. Although a note to organisers: Please have more outlets to buy alcohol than last year at 798. Battling a crowd for 20 minutes to buy those tubs of mixed vodka from a small tent was ridiculous. And beer was nowhere to be found which, considering it was a hot summer day, was incomprehensible. Beer this time please!!
