We told you enough about the party yesterday to whet your collective appetite, but now we want to make sure that you join our celebration. We're giving away ten pairs of tickets to the readers who impress us most with the answer to a very simple question.

What is the best thing that came out in 2001 that is still around?

It can be a book, a film, a song, a person ... or something else altogether. The only limit is that it had to have come out in 2001. (We will be checking.)

U.S. spy plane and Chinese jet collide (April 2); Sino-American relations deteriorate during a standoff. The 24 crew members of the U.S. plane were detained for 11 days and released after the U.S. issued a formal statement of regret.

I think may be a first for the US to actually issue an apology to China and beginning of at least a bit more humility in its dealing with China.

The first harry potter movie is released in theaters, capturing audiences in its magical world for a full 10 years with the conclusive film of the series screening earlier this year. Two 10 year anniversaries, both ranking in the best of 2001 kickoffs!

Poachers re-opened/opened at its current location in the northern section of Sanlitun in late October 2001. Thereby starting the land grab that has created the modern day Sanlitun bar street.

Thus the best thing to happen in Beijing in 2001 was the creation of the current location of Sanlitun's bar street (not the tourist trap around the corner) which has seen many great bars come and go.

GTA III, released in October 2001, is one of the most influential, and successful, games ever made.

It changed the way games are both made and played, and really opened the doors to 'mature' gaming and the idea that video gaming wasn't just for kids, more than any other game before it.

Clearly The Beijinger, but if we were going to go with something else it would be the San Diego Chargers drafting future Hall of Famer and All Time Single Season Scoring Leader, LaDainian Tomlinson. And yes, I realize I am in Beijing referencing American Football.
