Talking Pints: Women's Day, Blue Frog Charity Opening Party, Zhou Bar, D'Julz, Pendulum

Here's your weekly roundup of all that's going on in nightlife, from free drinks for ladies to the weekend's clubbing highlights.

It's Women's Day today (Mar 8), meaning there are more free drinks than ever for ladies. Find out where you can get those by clicking here, but if you want to help girls from poor backgrounds get into education, stop by Starfish, where VIVA, Compass Box and 85 Broads unite whiskey and women, offering up half-price cocktails, canapés, and oysters ... all for charity, of course. A minimum RMB 100 donation is all you have to drop to get in, and entry includes one cocktail, three oysters and entry into the prize draw.

Friday (March 9) yields more than a few options for the night owl. Welcome the weekend with Blue Frog’s opening party, all set at U-Town. RMB 100 donation to charity gets you free drinks and snacks for the evening. Party starts at 7pm.

Later on on Friday, 4corners is hosting the latest Whale! party, with a slew of DJs including AttacksUnicorns and Bobby Dropper. Or you can while away the hours over at Migas with Boflex and Nassdak. Haze has techno master Martin Eyerer in the house, and at Lantern, “shejay” QQ drops the dance floor fillers.

On Saturday (March 10), D'Julz plays Lantern (see our interview with him here), Funk Fever have their third anniversary party at The Bar at Migas, Punk has this month's Infused party, featuring Eddie Lv, Mickey Zhang and Azat, and Super Ayi Cleaning Team and Kaize are at Haze.

But the big event this Saturday is Pendulum at Tango. See our post here for details on that.

Looking ahead to next week, it’s Latin & Ladies Night at Eudora Station on March 14, while St. Patrick’s Day celebrations take place on March 17 at Eudora.

That reminds us – look out for a full St. Patrick's Day post coming your way soon. Paddy O'Shea's has a whole week of Emerald Isle action lined up, from live band Rufus playing on Friday night to the usual massive party on the 17th – they'll even be taking over the Italian restaurant next door this year. But of course, there will be other parties at all the other Irish bars and beyond, and we'll be telling you about them soon.

March 24 is “Devil and Angel” night at Xiu. The RMB 100 admission fee includes a free drink.

Located across from Jam and music bar Temple, newly opened Zhou Bar have 33 different bottled beers and a few on draft as well.A change to Haze's March schedule. Their "Haze Club Night" was originally planned for March 30 and listed in the Beijinger's March issue as such. The event has been pushed to April 1 and renamed "April Fool's Day Club Night." The price has also been upped from RMB 50 to RMB 80. On April 2 at Haze, The Horses take the stage with their particular combination of disco jams and techno stompers.

Looking ahead, some exciting events already lined up for April and May, with Grandmaster Flash, Mos Def and Zed Bias all coming to town. More on those later, but fun times ahead.

And finally, these last two events don't fall exactly into nightlife, except that we expect large quantities of alcohol to be consumed and laughs to be had by all. Don’t forget to check out the Beijinger's events at The Bookworm Literary Festival next week. First up, we let you make the decisions on a whirlwind adventure through life in Beijing with “Choose Your Own Adventure” on March 14, then make a magazine in real-time with our "Pop-Up Magazine" event on March 16. Tickets are available at The Bookworm, where you can also view our six-word writing competition exhibit in their back room. See you there!
