Win Tickets to SLAM! At 2 Kolegas

This is your chance to kill about five birds with one stone (the poor birds): It’s a JUE Festival and Bookworm Literary Festival event with hip hop, slam poetry, comedy and neo-folk performances at one of Beijing’s most beloved underground venues. And you’re getting a chance to go for free, so read on!

The show has three great performers lined up:

Luka Lesson is the current Australian Poetry Slam Champion. You can learn all about him at his website, but the skinny is that he’s huge on social justice, has a wicked way with words and, well … let’s just say if you like ‘em tall, dark and handsome … He’s also doing a few other events at The Bookworm (details below), but every year the SLAM! at 2Kolegas is the one to hit up if you’re looking for some high-octane action.

Tim Clare is a comedian who gets his tickling across with a little help from a tiny ukulele and big rhyming skillz. What really got his career going was his initial failure as a writer (you know, suffering producing art and all that), but now he’s doing quite well for himself, and his standup poetry drew raves at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Courtney Wing is one of those folksy Montreal-based orchestral musicians whose band members used to roll with Arcade Fire. He’s a he, so if you go expecting a blonde high-school cheerleader-type, you’ll be sorely disappointed. Catching him live might be your pass through the pearly gates of hipsterdom – but quick, before everyone else catches on! Full disclosure: I am not a hipster, so for all I know, he might be old news by now. Tread carefully.
