Present Pollution: When Will It End and What Can You Do?
Every year, Beijing seems to experience record-breaking or noteworthy pollution. Last year, it was those weeks of autumn smog that could be seen from space. Before that, it was the infamous “crazy bad” levels. This year it’s pollution that’s the “worst on record.” While we wait for the grey haze to lift, here are some predictions and filtering products to help beat out the particulates.
The current round of smog is expected to linger until tomorrow. It's a bit of a catch-22: while everybody's thankful for the break from frigid temperatures (mixed with a rise in humidity), it's those very conditions that are preventing the smog from dispersing. With a drop of several degrees forecast from Tuesday into Wednesday, we’re hoping that sub-zero temperatures will bring some pollution relief. But more warming is predicted for next weekend – does that mean another onslaught of hazardous air?
While you ponder that, consider this as well: Does our pollution explain why Shanghai is seen by some as more appealing than Beijing? Forbes seems to think so with a report that does little to support that claim.
If this latest apocalyptic scene is prompting you to consider purchasing air filters, there are plenty of options that don't break the bank. Grab a low-cost purifier that will do the job in small areas or go green and purchase plants that will naturally filter the air.
