New Duck in Town: The Opposite House to Open Jing Yaa Tang August 29
The Opposite House will open its fourth dining venue, Jing Yaa Tang, on August 29. featuring a distinctly different menu, with Peking duck and classic Chinese household dishes from various provinces in China, including kung pao chicken and dandan noodles.
The new eatery is a collaboration between Opposite House and London based-restauranteur Alan Yau, founder of the Wagamama food chain the UK. He is also the man behind restaurants Hakkasan and Yauatcha, each of which has been awarded a Michelin star.
The venue, which will occupy the former Punk nightclub space, will seat up to 155 people, offering lunch and dinner. Housed in contemporary Chinoiserie theatrical style, the interior opens into a central dining space or “Tang,” meaning hall in Chinese. The interiors reveal layers of dark lacquer with plum and burnt orange details. Quiet booths will further the opera house aesthetic, including a centralized bar and duck oven at center stage.
Swire Hotels Managing Director Brian Williams said they will bring their own brand of Peking duck to the scene. Beijing-born Li Dong will head the kitchen at Jing Yaa Tang. “We have sought to create a concept which references Beijing’s industrial heritage yet looks forward to reflect the tastes of modern China in a theatrical setting.” said Yau.
