First Glance: Flash Burritos and Tacos in Jianwai Soho

Jianwai Soho has added a new quick lunch spot to its roster with the opening of Mexican fast food joint Flash Burritos and Tacos. The slick space – think high wooden stools and a south-of-the-border inspired mural – provides a simple menu of (no surprise here) burritos and tacos, along with quesadillas, burrito bowls, salads and rice plates.

Anyone who has been to Chipotle will be familiar with the concept: choose whether you want a burrito, burrito bowl, taco or quesadilla, select your meat, add extras such as rice, beans and salad, then tuck in.

The chicken burrito (RMB 39), bursting with grilled chicken breast, rice and black beans, is more than substantial for a lunch. A steak burrito bowl (RMB 39), made with imported Australian beef, is no less satisfying for not having a tortilla. It's clear the ingredients are fresh.

A side order of crunchy corn chips (RMB 7) comes in a cute paper bag, although the accompanying guacamole (RMB 7) is a touch on the sour side.

Fast, fresh and excellent value, Flash is sure to be a hit with the lunch crowd (they also offer delivery – free for orders over RMB 30 with 1km, RMB 5 delivery fee for further away).
