EAT: BJ Foodies Charity Dinner, Haiku by Hatsune: Atlantic Wine Dinner, Plan B Renovation, New Obentos Winter Dishes
Obentos, who recently closed their Central Park location, has concentrated their focus on a new winter menu. As loyal Obentos fans we couldn't resist seeing what's on offer, trying out the seasonal abundance bowl (RMB 68, pictured above) and the seasonal bento (RMB 58, pictured below).
The new abundance bowl comes with quinoa and grains, onsen egg, pumpkin, broccoli, lotus root, kimchi, rocket, and miso ginger. We were particularly fond of the lotus root addition, adding crunch to the grain bowl.
The seasonal bento comes with a large chicken breast, and sides of broccoli, spinach, and a pumpkin as well as a serving of brown rice. This one packs enough variety to keep you perked up throughout the day but may be healthy to a fault (Asian food snobs look away now), so much so that a dollop of Sriracha had to be added to the rice to give it that extra oomph.
For those looking for something a little more indulgent, Haiku by Hatsune is hosting an Atlantic Wine Dinner on November 16 and 17, from 7-9.30pm both days.
The event will feature wines made using local grapes found near Spain's Atlantic coastal region, including Cortijo Blanco, Papa Godello, Gorcalla, Tercera Reserva, and Arrocal Seleccion, all presented by Emilio Muedra, Beijing regional manager of Sommelier International. Courses will be introduced by Haiku and Hatsune founder Alan Wong. Seats are RMB 420 each (RSVP required).
Later this week, on Sunday (Nov 20), BJ Foodies host their Charity Dinner at La Galleria. RMB 130 gets you a set dinner menu (shared between a table of four) and two drinks (a passion fruit spritz and a glass of house wine or soft drink/juice). Book your spot via WeChat (ID: LumDimSum) for that one.
And finally, some sad news for Plan B fans, who will have to wait until November 25, 4pm to return to their favorite bar while the team conducts some renovation on the property. No doubt they'll spring back even more eager than ever to feed the hungry masses of Shuangjing.
