5 Things to Taste, Smell, Touch, Hear, and See, Nov 16-18

Beijing can be overstimulating place to live, to say the least. Let’s be real: sometimes even our sixth sense (the one that tells you when that stick of chuan'r will make you sick for the next two days) gets a decent workout. With such a wide variety of events, restaurants, and gigs to attend, we suggest bathing each of your five senses in one, if not all, of the nourishing goings-on below.

Taste

Nov 17: Pinoy Pop Up Brunch at Little Creatures
Beijing loves brunch (if you haven't realized that yet, scroll through our favorite brunches available around town). If eggs-every-way isn't your game, Little Creatures brewery is hosting a Filipino-style brunch. It certainly won't be your usual bacon and cheese-powered meal but rather a feast of peaks and valleys for your taste buds. Did we mention there'll also be lots of beer? Midday-3pm. RMB 168. Little Creatures

Smell

Nov 17: Yunnan Cuisine Class
Once you go Yunnan, you never go back (the same could perhaps be said about pretty much any cuisine in China, maybe with exception to Dongbei). But instead of simply dreaming about pineapple rice, why not get your fingers moving and learn to make it yourself. The Hutong has established itself as a solid cooking class venue, and this Saturday they invite you to smell fresh chili, mint, lime, other essentials from south of the clouds. 2.30pm. RMB 300, RMB 260 (members). The Hutong

Touch

Nov 17-18: Ink in Tattoo Festival at Beersmith
Don't mind a little pain with your weekend? Beersmith is hosting this tattoo festival where not only can you witness the free flow of ideas for your next skin beautification procedure but even get it done here too (that Bell Tower tattoo isn't gonna ink itself, you know!). RMB 100. 1pm-3am. Beersmith

Hear

Nov 17: Scorpions
This German hard rock band has been playing together since 1965 (yes, 19-friggin'-65), a long and illustrious career that has solidified their legendary status in the scene of rawk. Scorpions may have been fueling your parents' parties but they still have plenty of juice in the tank, and their classic rock sound promises to get you grooving. Bonus points if you actually bring your papa with you. 8pm. RMB 180-1,980. Beijing Olympic Center Stadium

Nov 16: Fantastic Beasts: Crimes of Grindelwald
It's the opening weekend of the second installment of Fantastic Beasts and we are popping the popcorn already. While critics are divided about the quality of the film's contents, it will certainly please Potterheads nonetheless. If that's not really not really your cup of tea, treat yourself to some high-brow Spanish cinema instead. Fantastic Beasts: Crimes of Grindelwald opens on Nov 16 and will be screened at cinemas throughout Beijing.

Pssst: Thanksgiving is right around the corner! Here's where to get your fill of turkey next Thursday.
