Moka Bros Impresses With New "Vegan-able" Spring/Summer Menu
Even when you're a venue as popular as Moka Bros, it's never a bad idea to shake up the menu every now and again to keep people coming back. With that in mind, Moka Bros's new spring/summer menu builds on their reputation for creative, healthy (but not too healthy) dishes, adding a raft of new sandwiches, salads, and grain bowls.
Perhaps one of the biggest changes to the new menu is the number of dishes that are either vegan or can be made vegan by request. Although group marketing manager Anna Lin Yip admits that Moka Bros will never be a meat-free restaurant, their aim is to eventually have 30 percent of the menu meat-free or plant-based.
The idea behind this is to offer options that appeal not just to people who are already following a meat-free diet but also to those who simply want to cut down on their meat consumption. As an avowed, although admittedly increasingly guilty, meat eater I am happy to say that they have certainly succeeded in this regard. The Veggie Medley (RMB 58, with egg or tofu, depending on your dietary preference) packs in a huge amount of flavor thanks to ingredients such as roasted eggplant, black olives, and smoked tofu.
Our favorite dish from the new menu isn't a vegan dish, however, it's the smoked salmon salad (RMB 75). This is the kind of salad you can serve to someone who doesn't like salads, packed with barley, beetroot, pumpkin, green apple, and flaxseed, the mix of ingredients giving it great textural variety. A couple of dollops of ginger cream cheese (which pops up a few times across the new menu) act as a nice complement to the salmon.
Also worth trying are the bagels, available with four different fillings: smoked salmon, fried egg, bacon, and cream cheese; avocado and cream cheese; and kale, spinach, and cream cheese. The bagels are available for breakfast and brunch, meaning there is something to try on the new menu at any time of the day.
