Until Feb 23: Dimensions of Family
Just in time for the big CNY rush, Times Art Museum has tasked 10 modern Chinese artists with reconstructing and examining the concept of "home." The result is a museum-like experience, with paintings, photographs, and installations that lead the viewer on a journey into each of the artists' upbringings. Featured materials include extracts from Lu Qingyi's documentary Four Springs and photographs from Wang Jinsong, who is lauded for his candid portraits of Chinese families. Free. Tue-Sun, 9am-5pm. Until Mar 1: 15 Artists x 15 Years in China
As one of China's leading galleries, Galleria Continua has featured some of the world's most iconic artists over the years. So it should come as no surprise that their 15th anniversary features several heavyweight names. The 15 artists now on display include the likes of Ai Weiwei, Daniel Buren, Loris Cecchini, Chen Zhen, Carlos Garaicoa, Antony Gormley, Anish Kapoor, and Giovanni Ozzola. Free. Tue-Sun, 9am-5pm. Until Mar 15: Japanese Photography and the Collotype
Collotype is a photo-printing technique that originated in Germany in the mid-19th century, before large-volume mechanical printing was a thing. More than a century later, the technique is still used by a handful of artists with many of them concentrated in Japan. For their latest exhibition, Three Shadows has rounded up 38 examples of the form from four Japanese master photographers: Masahisa Fukase, Masao Yamamoto, Nakaji Yasui, and the late Issei Suda. Until Mar 24: Immersive Art Exhibition of Impressionist Artists
L'atelier’s 1,100sqm space has been turned into a sprawling land of art, exhibiting works from various impressionist artists. Unlike regular exhibitions, here the pieces have been recreated for an unusually immersive approach. There's Van Gogh's bedroom (above), Monet's famous garden, and street scenes taken straight from the French village of Arles, which was once a thriving community for artists. RMB 148. Until Apr 30: Factories, Machines, and the Poet's Words - Echoes of Reality in Art
This exhibition brings together works from 60 international and local artists from an array of periods. The thing that links them then is their inspiration: specifically evolution, machinery, and the social order all set against the panoramic backdrop of China's socialist industrialization between 1949 and now.
