Lunch at Qu Lang Yuan explores the possibilities of locally-produced protein

Qu Lang Yuan recently expanded their beautiful hutong dining-meets-gallery space to include a lengthy tea room, but that’s not the only thing new at this fine-dining fusion restaurant. The menu now features a freshly added six-course, locally sourced lunch set with fish and lamb from Miyun as well as shrimp from Huairou. After starting out with thinly cut Mandarin fish with caviar and chive sauce, lunchers are treated to a different take on roast duck – duck breast with shrimp, black truffle, and date, served on a roujiamou-style Chinese bread. Following a sippable vegetable soup, the main course comes in the form of baby lamb with lamb gravy, shallots, and baby corn. If you’re not full yet, you will be after the Changdao scallops on Jingxi rice, smothered in a delectable crab-soup sauce. Finish up with salted cheese and sweet melon for dessert.

The lunch goes for RMB 388 per person, and for now can be enjoyed amongst the calligraphy of renowned ink-wash painter, Li Jin.

Moka Bros x Bei 27 Hao x Educating Girls of Rural China: Food for Thought

Moka Bros has teamed up with popular Xibei noodle restaurant Bei 27 Hao (北27號) to create a special limited edition Lanzhou Power Bowl. Available for a limited time only, the Lanzhou Power Bowl combines traditional "Buddha Head" wild wheat noodles from Bei 27 Hao topped with fresh cabbage, carrot, cucumber, avocado, tofu, quinoa, and peanuts. According to Moka Bros' WeChat, "Buddha Head" wild wheat noodles are a signature of Bei 27 Hao and have been prepared the same way for generations. The noodles have a springy texture and are high in protein. Priced at RMB 60 (with the option to add chicken or steak for RMB 19), the power bowl is available at all Moka Bros locations in Beijing. RMB 10 from every bowl goes to Educating Girls of Rural China, which empowers women in rural regions of Western China to escape the cycle of poverty through education. The money raised through the sale of the Lanzhou Power Bowl will help to support young women in the 2020-2021 school year.

Q Mex debuts special dishes by guest chef Clement Rol

Q Mex has teamed up with Clement Rol, head chef of Courtyard 4 neighbor De Refter, to offer three French-inspired Mexican dishes. Try a new take on chicken liver pâté, topped with ratatouille, Mexican pickles, and pico de gallo, and served with a side of tortilla chips. Alternatively, Clement has created croque monsieur taco, filled with ham, béchamel sauce, spring onions, bacon, and cheese. Finish with profiteroles filled with vanilla cream and covered with a spicy Aztec chocolate sauce and tres leches cream. The dishes are available at any Q Mex Bar and Grill location (Sanlitun, Shuangjing, or CBD).
