Weekend Comedy Show Lineup Changed

Last week we interviewed comedian Lily Ma about her upcoming debut in Beijing that was scheduled to take place this weekend. Unfortunately Covid, or rather Covid protocols, have thrown a spanner in the works and she has been unable to make it to Beijing. However, Comedy Club China, being the amazingly resourceful bunch they are, have created a whole new comedy set last minute instead of canceling this weekend’s shows.

This is doubly good news for those who had already bought tickets for Lily’s show, because now your ticket is valid for whatever day you bought it for this weekend and also for Lily’s future show when it’s rescheduled, so you get two shows for the price of one! There is also a good deal for those who haven’t bought tickets yet, as the ticket price for this weekend’s show is being lowered from RMB 100 to the early bird price of RMB 80.

As of press time, Saturday’s show is already sold out, but there are a still some tickets left for Friday and lots left for the Sunday show in Shunyi. Now that Lily’s show has been postponed, Alex Shi will be headlining the comedy shows instead, with support from a handful of Beijing’s best comedians…

Alex Shi (all shows)

Alex Shi has her mom to thank for her stand-up comedy because she talks about her without her permission and now most of her audience knows her mom without meeting her. Alex is a very different person on stage than off, and the stage allows her long-suppressed mean personality to come out and shine.

Donnie Fan (all shows)

From New York City, Donnie Fan is a relatively new comedian in the stand-up scene, beginning in October 2020. He has quickly risen to touring comedian based in Beijing but performing in cities like Wuhan, Changsha, Nanjing, Shenyang, Kunming, Chengdu, and Chongqing. He recently took his first headline show, From Hero to Zero, on tour across China.

George Du (all shows)

A retired English teacher and a broke postgraduate with a liberal arts degree from New Zealand, George Du is a Wuhan local. He started his journey with comedy in 2019, navigating towards a laughable multiculturalism reality. He enjoys telling jokes from true life stories as well as being the party clown.

Louis Dowling (Friday show)

From Liverpool, England, Louis Dowling has done comedy in both the UK and China. He is a real teacher. Nobody can understand his accent.

Lander (Friday show)

Lander is a comedian who grew up with a traditional Chinese background. Her rebellious personality has led her into roasting all the things a “tiger mom” would never allow her to talk about.  She has performed in different English showcases in Beijing during the past three years. Also, she has been writing jokes for Chinese sitcoms.

Mick Makulusa (all shows)

Born in Tanzania, Mick first started doing comedy a couple of years before coming to China, and then joined the Beijing comedy community about a year ago. Since then he has been gracing the stage and trying to switch and create as much energy to give the audience through his jokes.

Also joining the lineup will be Summer Zhang for the Sunday show, Yolen for the Saturday and Sunday shows, and Miao for the Saturday and Sunday shows.

The Show Must Go On will be on at the following dates and locations:

Sep 16, 7.30pm at Lipi Records, 798
Sep 17, 7pm at Gatsby’s (Sold out)
Sep 18, 6pm at Basepoint, Shunyi

Tickets are RMB 80 and can be purchased by scanning the QR code in the poster above. Those who bought a ticket for Lily Ma's show before Sep 15 will also have a free ticket for Lily Ma's rescheduled show.
