Take a Look at Beijing's Newly Unveiled Traffic Signs

Beijing has released new guidelines for road traffic signs for 2022, and with the new guidelines come a series of new signs that'll make for some interesting changes to the rules of the road, providing they'll be followed.

No Electric Scooters Allowed

Essentially a no e-bikes beyond this point sign, when riders see a sign like this, they should be aware that they cannot ride on the road ahead. While similar to the street sign design used for bicycles, this new design features a rectangular addition near the handle bars, meant to look like an e-bike battery, as well as a bigger seat.

Get Off Your Bicycle Sign

This new signage, which features a man pushing a bicycle, means that cyclists are requested to get off their bikes and push them through the area instead. You'll now find these signs at entrances where cycling is prohibited, such as pedestrian underpasses or overpasses, meant to act as a reminder as this rule isn't often adhered to.

The Headlights Sign

This sign cautions that there will be a tunnel or area with low visibility ahead and that drivers need to turn their headlights on. Once drivers see the sign, they should turn on their headlights immediately.

Crosswalk Signs with Fluorescent Yellow and Green Borders

Pedestrian crosswalk signs that must've been too hard to spot are getting an upgrade in the form of a 10cm wide fluorescent yellow and green border. This new design is more eyecatching, which is meant to ensure drivers will look out for pedestrians (providing they see the signs this time around).

E-Bike Lane

This sign indicates that only e-bikes are able to use the lane and other vehicles are strictly forbidden. According to the new traffic sign rules, with e-bikes having become more common place, and considering they're larger and faster than normal bicycles, it is necessary to further enhance their right of way along certain roads.

Non-motor Vehicles and Pedestrians Sign

This final traffic sign indicates that the road is only for non-motor vehicles and pedestrians, with motor vehicles not allowed to enter.

I used to traffic in signs. Some were egregious, some were occult. A liittle pink painted elbow, who knows what that can mean?

But there I was, Saturday night, 1 am, selling out me signs, two bucks a pop, my pentagrams were the hottest, but I managed to sell off a few copies of Mister Manly P Halls book. Mostly surrepticiously ensconed unbeknowningstly in passerby's back pocket. A cat meaowed silently and a nearby rook chirmed. Using the A flat scale. Hairy Mary popped by and stuck her pinky finger in that funny little pocket we all have.

I am Doktor Aethelwise Snapdragoon.
