Beijing Improv Wants You! Join Their Open Practice, Nov 4

If you fancy yourself a bit of a performer or love being on the stage then Beijing Improv wants you to join them this Saturday, Nov 4! 

For those unfamiliar, Beijing Improv is China’s oldest and longest-running improv troupe. Founded in the hutongs by a group of passionate performers, it is an all-volunteer organization that holds regular English, Chinese and bi-lingual shows. They also run free bilingual improv workshops to give people the opportunity to join in the fun and learn just what improv is all about.

They’ve put on a whole range of different shows in the past, with themes like Valentine’s Day and Halloween to Spring Cleaning, and even partnered up with a Shanghai improv group a few years ago to put on a play version of A Tale of Two Cities. They’re also a non-profit organization, with all the proceeds from their shows being donated to the local community. 

Now, if this sounds like something you want to be a part of, you can join them this Saturday for an open practice. The practice is aimed at people who are interested in becoming long-term members of Beijing Improv. It will be kind of like a casual audition for joining the troupe, however there is no pressure to “be funny”. They’re looking for individuals who are good listeners, are ready to play and interact and, most importantly, just say yes! 

While no previous improv experience is required to take part in open practice, it is a big plus! As performances will be in English, individuals will also need a high level of English fluency. It’s also important to mention that this isn’t the same as an open workshop; it isn’t intended for beginners looking to practice but for individuals who have a sincere interest in joining the troupe long term.
