Busy Holiday: A Few Things To Do Today, Oct 5
It’s the National Holiday, folks! While we know a great many of you have most likely joined the masses to leave Beijing for travel, for those who have remained, there are still some great things to do every day of this Golden Week holiday.
Rediscover Film Photography on a FilmNeverDie Photowalk
Film photography is having a bit of a moment in China and around the world, and groups like film photography experts FilmNeverDie are introducing folks in Beijing to the art. Today, they’ll be leading a photowalk, in which participants go on a tour of a specific area or neighborhood to take photos – a good chance to try film if you’ve not used it before or to get back into it if you’ve not used it in a while.
Anyone is welcome, and you can bring your own camera with film or you can pick up a disposable or other camera at the group's recently opened film developing studio on Zhangzizhonglu. Here, you’ll find all sorts of film plus a selection of used cameras of all kinds to check out. It’s the ideal space for film photography enthusiasts to meet like-minded people.
FilmNeverDie’s holiday photowalk is happening on Sat, Oct 5, from 2pm onward, with the walk starting off from the shop. Ten spots are available, and signup can be done on the FilmNeverDie mini-program. You can contact FilmNeverDie via WeChat (ID: FND_lab) for details.

Learn More About the Hutongs at the Shijia Hutong Museum
If there’s one thing that is synonymous with Beijing, it’s the hutongs – the centuries old neighborhoods snaking their way around the capital, hiding things old, new, and cool within. The best place to learn all about the hutongs is the Shijia Hutong Museum, a courtyard house that has seen life as a home, the base of a theater troupe, and even a school.

Les Vagabonds Nocturnes will be playing Celestial on Sat, Oct 5. Doors open at 2pm and the show kicks off at 9pm. Entry is free.
