Founded in 1951, Le Crazy Horse de Paris, a famous French cabaret, has been making headline news buzz lately, as BLACKPINK member Lisa joins the show. As a representative of "Girl Crush," Lisa projects the ideals of "female power," "self-confidence," "independence," and "strength." However, the juxtaposition of Lisa's "Girl Crush" image with the long-standing sexual innuendo of the "Crazy Horse" show, infamous for its narrative association with "pandering to the male gaze," inevitably sparked a great deal of controversy and heated discussion.

And the broader discussion between anti-pornography feminism and sex-positive feminism reflected in this debate has parallels in the field of drag performance.

It is easy to see that in the cis-gay-men-dominated queer scene, "beauty" is considered a powerful presence with far-reaching significance. The club kids who hang out at underground queer parties should never be interpreted as a one-dimensional so-called "subculture". For them, "beauty slavery" is a form of identity self-expression, and make-up and styling are visual means of conveying individuality.
