Shangri-La opens new brewhouse in Shougang Park
Following the success of Beersmith Gastropub adjoining their Hotel Jen property in CBD, Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts are readying their latest venue: Shang Brew in Beijing's western Shougang Park, opening on Thursday, Oct 1. The 250sqm brewery is the hotel chain's first standalone restaurant in mainland China and alongside in-house brewed craft beers will offer 40 "international dishes" across its spacious lounge and outdoor areas, according to The Drinks Business. There's also a stage to host live performances. No word yet on whether Beersmith's deals will carry over (see more on those below).
The venue is the latest big opening in the former Shougang Steelworks, which is undergoing a major overhaul in time for the 2022 Winter Olympics. Once complete, the space will host both the snowboard Big Air event as well as the Beijing 2022 Organising Committee for the entirety of the Games.
Drop by and say hi at 3 Blast Furnace Museum, Pavilion C, 68 Shijingshan Road, Shijingshan District.
Beersmith celebrate "Kraftoberfest"
Staying with Shangri-La, Beersmith will celebrate their take on Oktoberfest, "Kraftoberfest," throughout the holiday, including a daily happy hour Oct 1-8 and 10th, with all beers priced RMB 35 between 11am and 7pm, as well as a RMB 158 free-flow deal covering beers, cider, hard seltzer, wines, and sparkling wine. There'll also be seasonal German-inspired brews and food such as currywurst or crispy pork knuckle and live performances galore.
Hop Nation residency at Zhujingban
Over at Andingmen's Zhujingban, they welcome their latest craft brew residency in the form of Australia's Hop Nation, running Oct 1-Nov 31, 4pm-2am. Founded in Melbourne's suburb of Footscray by Aussie Sam Hambour and Kiwi Duncan Gibson in 2015 (their Melbourne pub is pictured above), Hop Nation is unique for the fact that the founders were both wine nuts before they go their start in beer. By utilizing their winemaking experience, however, the duo has conducted a series of mixed fermentation experiments, bringing their knowledge of the "terroir" and how it affects taste into the beer world. Get all the juicy details here (in Chinese).
RMB 25 beers at Great Leap Brewing
At Great Leap, they'll celebrate the founding of the People’s Republic of China with a daily beer special for RMB 25 at all GLB locations, Oct 1-8. This is in addition to all guest beers being RMB 25 at GLB Lido – one of the best beer deals in the city. They also have four new beers up for grabs: The Eastern Sunset Porter (7.9 percent ABV) and Blend Into the Sounds raspberry sour IPA (4.4 percent ABV) and the first two entries in their Wild Cru series. Read more of all of that here.
Weekend deals on all beers at Prodigy
Xingfucun's Prodigy Brewing has announced a new weekend special just in time for the holiday. Now all beers are 10 percent off every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. See what we thought of the new-ish venue when it opened amid the coronavirus pandemic back in April.
Monkey's Fist on discount at Side Street
Finally, if you're planning on visiting Side Street during the extended holiday, you'll be happy to find that they will be selling Monkey's Fist at a discounted RMB 35 throughout.
