New Inhalable Covid Vaccine Rolled Out in Beijing, But Only in Certain Districts

A new Covid vaccine that can be inhaled has just been rolled out in the capital, according to a report from Beijing Daily -- but it's only available in certain districts, and as of yet, not to foreigners.

As of yet, the vaccine, a special aerosolized vaccine developed by CanSino, is only available in Dongcheng, Fengtai, Huairou, and Miyun Districts. When we reached out to the sole location providing the new vaccine in Dongcheng (located, per the Beijing Daily report, 50 m south of 147 Yongwai Dajie, outside the west gate of a former construction company), we were informed that not only is the vaccine only available for Chinese citizens at this time*, it’s only meant as an alternative to a Covid booster shot -- in this case a third shot.

We reached out to international clinics that had previously gotten the OK to give first shots up to third boosters for foreigners (Vista Medical Center, Oasis International Hospital, Raffles Hospital Beijing, and Beijing United Family), but each of them told us they hadn’t received word on when or if they’d have the new vaccine available.

Also in Covid vaccine news, following German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s visit to China, it was announced that a deal was in the works to offer the Pfizer/BioNTech Covid vaccine in China for foreigners only, reports Politico.

When reaching out to the aforementioned clinics, they also had no news about the Pfizer roll out and when they’d be receiving it, with our contact at Oasis saying they'd probably know more once the deal is finalized.

As for the elusive fourth booster jab, there’s still no word yet on when and if these will be rolled out.

*While the inhalable vaccine is only available to Chinese citizens at this time, that doesn't mean it could change in the future. If you want to find out more, call this number: 8789-8668.
