Talking Tunes: Timeless November - Golden Oldies Galore

November is shaping up to be quite a month for big-name foreign acts coming to town. No sooner had we begun to come to terms with the prospect of having Sir Elton in town than we were hit with more news: a crop of golden oldies dusting off their mics (or soprano saxophones) for our enjoyment.

Kenny "G Force" G, is set for a return to the Middle Kingdom on November 4. The Permed One will be in town once again at Beijing M Space. Even if you've never heard of Kenneth Gorelick, you've heard his music. His "Coming Home" is the song that you hear when you're waiting for your mate to answer the phone, or when you're on hold generally. You'll have heard it on the bus, on the subway, in Carrefour. Just about anywhere that there's call for easy listening jazz, there's the G Dog.

Here's the G Unit performing George Michael's classic, "Careless Whisper":

The "Prince of Romance" Richard Clayderman will return on Christmas Day for his now-annual Great Hall of the People performance. This year's jaunt is being dubbed "20 Years' Romance in China." Elaine Paige, the "First Lady of Musical Theatre," will also be in town performing at the Olympic Center Gymnasium on November 2.

As if that wasn't enough, "American megastar" Michael Bolton performs at the Poly Theatre on November 1 as part of the 15th Beijing Music Festival.

Good grief ... my nan would give her eye teeth to be here in November.

China's own "Godfather of Rock" Cui Jian returns on December 15 as he continues his 2012 tour at Wudaokou's Mastercard Arena.

One for a slightly younger demographic now: Blue have come out of retirement for a final jaunt in November. The English boy band responsible for "Guilty" and "One Love" will be here on November 27 at the Workers' Gymnasium as they gear up for a new album release next year.>

Piano-led pop rockers The Fray are getting excited about their trip east as lead singer Isaac Slade attests below. They're set to play Tango on November 14.

Don't you hate it when someone invites you to call them and don't leave their number? How, Isaac, how?

Here are two of our November visitors in one: Blue joins forces with auld Reg as they revisit one of his early classics, "Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word."

Don't forget to check out upcoming music shows here.

Just when you think we couldn't possibly top some of the names washing up on our shores in the coming weeks, you go and remember that we've got a virtuoso flutist in town this weekend! James Galway, aka The Man with the Golden Flute, hits town on Friday evening with a performance at St. Joseph's Wangfujing Church (Dongtang Cathedral). He'll be supported by classical guitar legend Yang Xuefei and cellist Ma Xinghua.
Not to be missed.
