How close were the votes?
In the closest-fought battles of the first round, Haidian upstart Eatalia narrowly eked out a victory over Alba, 52% to 48%, while the purveyors of two of the more refined, authentic pies – Pizza by LMPlus and Dianping.com sweetheart La Cascina – duked it out, with LMPlus emerging as the winner by a slice, 51% to 49%.
On the other end of the spectrum, heavyweights The Tree, Kro's Nest, Annie's, Hutong Pizza and Pyro Pizza each dominated their first-round matches by winning in excess of two-thirds of the ballots.
Notable knockouts in the first round included tbj columnist Tom O'Malley's personal fave (Twilight) which was hammered by Scott's Family Restaurant; Shuangjing pie slinger Bang! Bang! Pizza was smacked around by the über-hip and centrally located Sureno; longtime delivery stalwart Pizza Buona was crushed under the weight of The Kro's Nest's pies; and Vineyard Cafe was sent packing by an ascendant Gung Ho! Pizza.
Now get ready for Round 2. Voting starts today at 2pm (that’s now) and closes Monday, November 21 at noon. Which Wudaokou pie will come out on top? Will it be Annie's or Gung Ho! who deliver the win? Can Mao Mao Chong's overtake The Tree for best bar pizza? Is LMPlus v. La Pizza the battle for the most authentic Italian?
NB. You can only vote once in each round from a single computer. If the voting panel above is no longer showing up, that means you have already successfully completed your vote for this round. Well done.
