New Bakery Glaçage Serves Eclairs that Are Pretty as a Picture

We'll admit it: we're full-on sugar fanatics (evidence). Whenever a new bakery or patisserie opens we're there as quick as you can say "sugar high." We're even more of a sucker for fancy presentation, so we were particularly excited to hear about Glaçage, a new bakery in Liangmaqiao's Grand Summit complex specializing in éclairs. We're told the owner, who originally hails from Hong Kong, moved to France when he was six and that the chef is French, so they've certainly got the right qualifications.

There are around 10 varieties of éclair (RMB 38-50) on offer and man, they are something to look at, adorned with mirror-perfect glazes and eye-catching colors. There are plenty of outlandish flavor combinations -- chestnut and mandarin, or foie gras and fig, anyone? -- but we preferred the more traditional dark chocolate, much less sweet than some of the other flavors. For a sample of the flavors, pick up the box of eight mini éclairs for RMB 228.

Those who are looking to cut down on sugar intake still want to indulge in a treat now and again will want to try Glaçage's sugar-free range, with four flavors (RMB 40-46) including matcha-white chocolate.

While it's a little style over substance, Glaçage would make a gorgeous gift for that person in your life who appreciates the finer things.
