I'm not an expert in Zhejiang cuisine so I'm not sure how this place compares to similar restaurants but I did like the food and service.
A few friends and I headed over to the jiaodakou branch last week for a taste on a friday. The restaurant is inconspicuously there in between a couple of other establishments but once you walk in the inside is built to resemble a rustic courtyard. wood, wood and more wood!
The staff was quite friendly as in most Chinese restaurants and took good care of us. They even have a little notebook with a handwritten translation of the menu.
The food matched the place to a T!! rustic looking, subtle flavors that are different enough from the usual chinese fare. The dong Porou was just to die for.. I'm not a big fan of pork in general but i'll definitely make an exception for this one.
the Zuixia wasn't too impressive for our laowai taste buds and they were quite tiny (freshwter shrimp). Duck soup was good, make sure the duck doesn't get wasted or left in the bowl as it is absolutely delicious. stir-fried bamboo shoots were also good. We ordered a whole bunch of dishes and while some of them were plain and simple, the ones above just stood out. The huangjiu is something else.. that stuff has flavor without the alcohol content of baijiu. the Chou Dofu there is quite potent to say the least...
For desert, the tongyuan were unbeatable.. we actually had to order 3 rounds because we just kept eating them; can't say the same about the pumpkin pies.. they were deep fried and not my cup of tea.
overall, a nice experience! we stuffed ourselves like pigs and the total bill was about 900RMB for 15 of us.
