Capital Bites: Restaurant Week Coming, Emergency Cheese Dinner and More Kro's?

Dining City's next Restaurant Week will be taking place in just under a couple months, March 4-10. Also, read on for info about an urgent call to eat cheese at Cafe de la Poste. Plus a wine dinner at Niajo

Restaurant Week continues to grow in Beijing, with more restaurants participating each time and more eaters showing up to dine, too. For now there's just a short list of places taking part: Daccapo, Temple Restaurant Beijing, Brasserie Flo, Lost Heaven, Capital M and Vic at the Wanda Sofitel. But of course, we'll keep you updated about when you can start reserving spots, plus all the other restaurants that will be joining in.

Speaking of the Sofitel, their new French restaurant, Heritage, has been up and running for a couple months now and is starting their new menu. Their new chef plays with slow-cooking techniques like sous vide quite a bit, and incorporates ingredients and inspiration from his recent time spent in Australia.

Cafe de la Poste was planning for a big cheese dinner in February, but the shipment arrived a month early so now they need everyone's help downing lots and lots of cheese! Tomorrow night, Jan 23, the neighborhood French place will be serving up a dinner complete with cheese and wine tastings. It'll be RMB 188 per person, reservations encouraged.

This Thursday (Jan 24), Niajo's hosting a Segovia wine dinner, celebrating the region famous for its suckling pig (which will of course be on the menu). It's five courses with four Spanish wines for RMB 398. You can book a table by calling 5208 6052 or emailing rsvp@niajo.com.

Migas is helping fight the cold weather with new "Grandma-style" soups on the menu. So get fed before you party.

Good news and bad news for fans of Pekotan's baked goods. Good first: The bakery seems to have renovated, with a new counter and more seating space. Bad: we now have to wait until 9.30pm for the half-price deals and it's been so popular that these days there's pretty much nothing left by then. Which reminds me, one of our readers reminds us all that the Kempi Deli is a great little spot, but we don't talk about it as much anymore. Here's the reader review, complete with a reminder that their bakery has a half-price deal after 9pm too. Let's spread the bread love.

In other news, Kro's Nest is plotting two new locations, but they're still unconfirmed and most likely slated to open in May or June. We'll keep you posted as we hear more.

Also, in case you've missed it, we've been checking out Greyhound (fun Thai fusion) and Jubang (slightly upscaled homestyle Korean food), both in the Sanlitun area. We've also got a preview on Wang Jia Sha (Shanghai eats, with amazing Dintaifung-rivaling xiaolongbao) coming up on the blog soon.

Happy eating.
